Water + Sanitation Projects Consultant                                                                                               May 2015 – Current
Volunteers as an auxiliary staff member, providing engineering and administrative support to small development organization focused on improving livelihoods of rural Berber communities in Southwest Morocco. Work includes preparing reports and grant applications for USAID, Moroccan embassies and other funding partners (+$1M total) for water and sanitation infrastructure, most notably the world’s largest and most advanced fog-water harvesting and distribution system. Also conducted interviews to study the effect of on-site piped water sources on local women’s livelihoods and surveyed existing infrastructure in preparation of recommendations for improved sanitation & grey water systems.  www.darsihmad.org

Serves as a volunteer Project Engineer for a 502(c)(3) organization focused on developing community water projects in various locations in the Republic of Haiti. Duties include designing, planning and building water systems for underserved populations, training local personnel to operate water systems and meeting with stakeholders to better understand water needs and conditions. First installation completed in November 2013 in Tricotte, Haiti for remote medical clinic. Additional work includes mapping and testing public water points and investigating new water technologies for local, low-cost water filtration (ceramic filters) and disinfection (salt chlorine generators) www.addwater.org

SELECT ENGINEERING PROJECT NARRATIVES

POCAHONTAS COUNTY PUBLIC SERVICE DISTRICT Snowshoe, WV - Operations Assessment (2011)
Assessed the management operations of this wastewater utility in West Virginia.  Project included multiple site visits, interviews with operators and managers along with a thorough review of process data and operations records for three wastewater treatment plants.  Provided comprehensive assessment of the existing conditions.  This included recommendations for improved operations of the wastewater treatment processes and business operations.  Project success necessitated an understanding of the unique requirements and constraints of operating a utility in a rural area with demanding weather conditions.

WEBSTER FIELD NAVAL AIR STATION ANNEX St Inigoes, MD - Wastewater Treatment Plant Design/Build (2010)
Responsible for process design and drafting of a new advanced wastewater treatment plant with high quality effluent to replace an existing wastewater treatment plant.  New facility to be constructed within the limits of an old sludge drying bed, presenting challenging spatial and geotechnical conditions.  Duties included process design calculations, equipment specifications, and mechanical design and drafting.  Work was performed under a fast-track design/build contract.

TOWN OF CHINCOTEAGUE, VA Public Sewer Feasibility Study (2007)
Served as Project Coordinator responsible for developing a comprehensive report for the first centralized wastewater system on the Island of Chincoteague – a rural tourist destination on the eastern shore of Virginia.  Organized environmental data from various local, regional and national agencies assessing the existing environmental impact of failing septic systems. Developed preliminary engineering plans and cost estimates for a collection, treatment and disposal system on the island. Met with the EPA officials to discuss environmental conditions of the island and possible disposal options, including deep well injection. Presented findings to the Governor’s cabinet, state agencies, Town Mayor & Council and residents through a series of public seminars.

The company operates an online marketplace through Etsy.com, generating sales and consignment relationships throughout North America.
